Former Supreme Court judges Justice Mansoor Ali Shah and Justice Athar Minallah, who stepped down following the passage of the 27th Constitutional Amendment, have received commuted pension payments in accordance with applicable rules.
According to official sources, Justice Mansoor Ali Shah was paid a lump-sum pension exceeding Rs 161 million, while Justice Athar Minallah received a commuted pension of more than Rs 154 million. In addition to these one-time payments, both former judges are entitled to monthly pensions.
Justice Mansoor Ali Shah is currently receiving a monthly pension of approximately Rs 1.13 million, which includes medical allowance and driver-related benefits. Justice Athar Minallah’s monthly pension amounts to more than Rs 1.22 million, covering medical facilities, driver pension and additional allowances.
Prior to their resignations, revisions were made to the benefits of Supreme Court judges. These included an increase in house rent allowance to Rs 350,000 and an enhancement of the Superior Judicial Allowance to over Rs 1.1 million, as notified by the Ministry of Law.
Justice Mansoor Ali Shah served in the judiciary for over 16 years, while Justice Athar Minallah completed more than 11 years of service. Both judges resigned from the Supreme Court in November 2025, citing concerns over the 27th Constitutional Amendment, which they believed affected the authority of the apex court. Their resignations were formally accepted by President Asif Ali Zardari on November 14, 2025.
Under existing regulations, retired Supreme Court judges continue to receive certain post-retirement facilities. These include medical coverage, residential accommodation, official staff support, security arrangements, limited utility allowances and benefits extended to spouses. Retired judges are also permitted to purchase their official vehicles at concessional rates and retain driver or staff services as per entitlement.
